The amazing things about jiu jitsu is the accessibility to entering competition at any belt rank or age, Competitions are separated by three factors, Belt rank, weigh divisions & age groups (youth to adult). Competitions can be run in both GI (uniform) and NOGI. Many competitions adopt a rage of rule sets depending on the organisation running the event. Some rules may also change depending on your age and belt rank.
Over the jiu jitsu and grappling has seen many Organisations, federations and independent events all are valued and hold great events and competitions you are welcome to jump into, just a quick note some of these Organisations, federations will require you to become a member before you can enter there events
The IBJJF or International federation of Brazilian jiu jitsu has developed a rule set that has been adopted by many BJJ GI competitions around the world knowing this rule set is vital for those looking to compete in any competition.
The rules of the event not only cover actual combat on the mat but also relate to uniform and ranking and may change from year to year so it’s very important to say up to date with any changes to the rules as you enter the desired event.
